First Tee x The Broken Club

At the InSports Foundation, we believe that everyone deserves the chance to experience the life-changing opportunities that sports provide, and our Broken Club program is a key initiative to help more kids get into the game of golf. Through our ongoing partnership with First Tee – Minnesota, we’re working together to ensure that golf, a sport rich with tradition and life lessons, becomes accessible to children from all walks of life.

First Tee Minnesota

First Tee – Minnesota is dedicated to developing “game changers” by integrating the values of golf with essential life skills. Their programs are designed to teach honesty, perseverance, and confidence through the game. By partnering with InSports Foundation and our Broken Club program, First Tee provides free golf lessons, clinics, and play opportunities for underserved youth in the Twin Cities.

The Broken Club

In 2024, our Broken Club initiative provided First Tee with a $20,000 donation, which helped bring the joy of golf to 544 children and teens in St. Paul and Minneapolis. Our support funded three key areas: free lessons, free clinics, and free play opportunities, ensuring that kids who might not otherwise have the chance to play golf were able to experience the sport firsthand.

Combined Impact Across Lessons, Clinics, and Play

FREE LESSONS

364 Kids IN the Game

Through a partnership with St. Paul Parks and Recreation, 364 children and teens were given the opportunity to attend a series of four free lessons at Highland National Golf Course. These lessons taught golf fundamentals like putting, chipping, and full swing, while also integrating valuable life lessons. Participants came from 14 community centers across the city, including Phalen Rec Center, Frogtown Community Center, and Rice Rec Center, among others.

FREE CLINICS

141 Kids IN the Game

First Tee also hosted three one-hour clinics at Highland National in St. Paul and Columbia Golf Club in Minneapolis, giving 141 kids their first taste of golf. These clinics offered a welcoming environment for kids to try something new, and our Broken Club support ensured they had access to skilled coaches and volunteers who guided them through golf drills and encouraged them to face new challenges with confidence.

FREE PLAY

39 Kids IN the Game

For many of the children in these programs, playing on an actual golf course had been out of reach—until now. Thanks to the support from Broken Club, 39 kids were able to get out on real courses, such as The Loop in Chaska, Theo Wirth in Minneapolis, and Eagle Lake in Plymouth. This was a chance to build on the skills learned in lessons and clinics while enjoying a day on the course, learning to navigate real-life challenges and celebrating the small victories that come with mastering the game.

Where Elite Golf Drives Opportunities for Young Players

Together with First Tee – Minnesota, the InSports Foundation is breaking down barriers to participation and fostering a love for the game of golf among youth in underserved communities. The Broken Club program is more than just an introduction to a sport—it’s about building life skills, confidence, and connections that will last a lifetime. With each child that picks up a club, we are helping to shape the future, one swing at a time.

At InSports Foundation, we are proud to continue supporting programs like First Tee, making golf—and the valuable lessons it imparts—accessible to all. We look forward to the continued growth of the Broken Club program as we work to empower even more young people through the game of golf.
